Sometimes they surprise us

I spent the better part of February trying to prepare Gardner and his room for the impending move. I packed a special box just for him to open the first day. I packed tens of bags for us to keep in our cars, full of snacks and diapers and other whatnots which I figured we'd need in a crisis. I tried to explain verbally to him what was about to happen to his room, his toys, and his whole house which has been his entire existence for 17-1/2 months.

What happened? As ill-prepared as I still felt, I was blown away by his resilience. He took to change like a professional, able to adjust on less than a day's time. In fact, he's eating, sleeping, and playing better than he has in months.

Just goes to show that we can be just a tad overdramatic at times. He had it in the bag, no problem....it just took a while for me to get it. Man, this kid amazes me still.

Pencil me in!

I have a myriad of ideas on how to teach Gardner the things he's ready to learn....now, if I could just DO it, that's all! He's already repeating every object we name for him. I know he's nearing the age when he can absorb information such as colors, shapes, numbers, and the alphabet. But I know that if I don't set aside specific time to work on these new skills, it will be haphazard and unplanned. I don't want him to have to depend on a preschool to teach him these things. My aunt Melinda gave me a simple yet indispensible tool....a wipe-off schedule calendar to put on the refrigerator. Now, I am already very planned as far as meal times and especially nap times go. This intends to delve much deeper. Yes, I have seemingly grafted into the pool of soccer moms who schedule every day down to the minute....or have I? Am I simply a mom who wants to know what her day has in store....with a toddler who, with an even greater desire, wants to know what his day ha...

Complete set

Ken and I were somewhat reluctant, but we read "Babywise" before Gardner was born due to some advice from friends we deeply trusted. We, of course, were not Nazis about it....we did not follow it exactly, but we used it as a general guideline and advice resource. All in all, we were amazed at the results. We plan to read it again in the next month or three as we prepare for the new baby. We eagerly purchased and loved "Toddlerwise," too. I think I must've highlighted over half of the book. And I lucked out by finding a copy of "Childwise" at a yard sale on Saturday. Anybody else read these, go by these, love these, hate these? Can I ask why? Why not? Just curious as to what you all have to say about this series....
